Naivasha, a perfect escape from the city

Nestled in the Rift valley, about one and half hours from Nairobi, Naivasha is a perfect place for a weekend getaway. We went for a day trip on a Saturday morning, welcomed by a warming sun. So, I take this opportunity to share our good memories with you . And also, to let you know more about Africa with its beautiful wilderness and the magic of traveling!

Along the way you can spot many farm roses, a lot of resort and charming hotels as Naivasha is a very popular place for a weekend getaway. From a point of view, the Rift valley is splendid and mysterious. And where a wide range of small shops offer you a various and colorful work of Kenyans arts and crafts : jewelry, sculpture, canvas, clothing, Masai market items…

We arrived at noon near the Lake Naivasha. Boats and guides are available at any time . So, we took a boat ride for one hour. Bird lovers will be happy : the Lake is packed with pelicans, African Fish eagles, ducks, herons...It was a real breathtaking expedition as we saw the enormous hippopotamus coming around, so close to our little boat.

After a few minutes of observation, we learned a lot about the lifestyle of these animals, whom are endangered. The guide took us later to a small island called “crescent land “. It’s a private park but you are allowed to wander around for a while. There you can see herds of zebras, antelopes, gnou, …

Our boat picked us up back for lunch which were fresh and delicious as usual . The lake has an abundant variety of fishes , especially Tilapia. A lot of restaurant from local ones to the resort are available around . We had enjoyed our day and we drove back towards Nairobi with a regain of energy and happiness that Mother nature has offered us gracefully ! Above all, we have learned how to be aware of our environment conservation and respect this nature.

Thanks for reading.

  2. We passed there on our way back from Menegai Crator and Nakuru. I insisted to visit Fisherman’s Camp and to hire a boat to see hippos, so we did. On the way back to Nairobi I had a very nice coffee experiance in Naivasha Town. Maybe I should write it down in my blog…
